Wavy hair can be tricky, therefore we have put together an easy guide on how to care for wavy hair.

Top tips on how to care for wavy hair

  1. Increase the volume and encourage more curl by using a diffuser with a high-quality hairdryer.
  2. Layering up or ‘cocktailing’ gels and mousses doesn’t always work for waves. This can get too heavy on wavy hair. With this in mind, one styling product is often all that is needed.
  3. Wavy hair may not respond well to curl creams or leave in moisturisers applied prior to styling products because it can be too much layering on the hair.
  4. The wrong choices with shampoos, conditioners and treatments can weigh wavy hair down. As a consequence, the waves can drop. In fact, you can condition the hair correctly with a good quality lighter product.
  5. Make sure you are washing out all of the conditioners from wavy hair. Not fully rinsing out conditioners can just be too heavy on wavy hair and as a result, your hair may not be as light and bouncy.
  6. Simplify the routine and try using a mousse instead of a gel. In fact, many with waves prefer the mouse,  instead of gels because they have a lighter feel on the hair and give the hair more grit.

Self discovery for your curls

It’s important not to compare your hair to another person’s hair. For example products suitable for thick, curly dry hair just don’t have the same fit for waves.  As shown above, great hair is about learning products that suit your hair type and also your lifestyle. You’re now on a new hair journey and self-discovery to products suited to you. Embrace it and most importantly have fun with it.
