Beginners Guide To Using A Pure Hair Oil

Firstly the application of pure hair oil is entirely different from an ordinary commercialised oil mixed with silicones.  You should always work with small amounts of hair oil until you find out the right quantity for your hair. The exact amount of hair oil can mean all the difference between being perfect or needing to rewash the hair.

Do’s And Don’ts Of Hair Oil

  • Apply oil to wet hair. This step is vital for controlling frizz and locking in moisture.
  • Use 2 to 3 drops of pure hair oil to the average hair length type. e.g. chin length, medium thickness. The use of excessive oil can be easily rectified and is a common mistake that stops people using the oil. They blame the oil when in fact they may just be using one drop too much.
  •  Avoid the scalp and root area unless you are using the hair oil as a prewash hair soak.  TIP – Tilt your head to the side to do one half then tilt to the other side. Divide the hair into a couple of sections if you have extra long or thick hair before adding the oil.
  • Make sure that you work the oil throughout the hair evenly.
  • Very thirsty, naturally curly or dry hair may require a leave-in moisturiser before the oil. An example of hair types that would suit this would be blonde, curly, grey hair or hair that has been stripped by bleach. A high moisture hair elixir with protein is often perfect for hair types that need extra protein.
  •  Add your styling product after the oil.
  • Hair oils can also be used to smooth down the hair. Start with a tiny drop and smooth over dry hair.
  • Make sure you are buying the correct hair oil for your hair.
